I was born in Evanston, Illinois and later moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois until graduating from college in 1981, when I moved to California. I have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering/bioengineering from the University of Illinois and worked my entire career at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. My professional interests include measurement and control systems, electro-optics, communications, transducers, circuit design, and technical writing. I’m the author of two books, LabVIEW Graphical Programming and LabVIEW Power Programming, and hold nine patents. In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of hobbies including fine woodworking, metalworking, electronic design, ham radio, and hiking. I live with my wife, Katharine, in the vineyards of Livermore, California.
